Hybrid parametric/smooth inversion of electrical resistivity tomography data

چکیده
The standard smooth electrical resistivity tomography inversion produces an estimate of subsurface conductivity that has blurred boundaries, damped magnitudes, and often contains artifacts. In many problems the expected structure is well constrained in some parts subsurface, but incorporating prior information not a trivial task. this study we developed algorithm combines parametric strategies. regions where constrained, model was parameterized with only few variables, while rest voxels. We tested hybrid strategy on two synthetic models contained highly resistive or conductive near-surface horizontal layer target beneath. each testing scenario, improved resolution feature boundaries magnitudes had fewer artifacts than inversion. A sensitivity analysis showed successfully recovered features when range regularization parameters, initial models, data noise levels were tested. can potentially be expanded to applications including marine surveys, permafrost/frozen ground studies, urban geophysics, anywhere allows part simple geometric shapes.

متن کاملSensitivity of electrical resistivity tomography data to electrode position errors
S U M M A R Y Limitations of imaging using electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) arise because of the difficulty of quantifying the reliability of tomographic images. A major source of uncertainty in tomographic inversion is data error. Data error due to electrode mislocations is characterized by the sensitivity of electrical potential to both source and receiver positions. This sensitivity i...

Protection of water resources from contamination and detection of the contaminants and their treatments are among the essential issues in the management of water resources. In this work, the time-lapse electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) surveys were conducted along 7 longitudinal lines in the downstream of the Latian dam in Jajrood (Iran), in order to detect the contamination resulting fro...
متن کاملPiecewise 1D laterally constrained inversion of resistivity data
In a sedimentary environment, layered models are often capable of representing the actual geology more accurately than smooth minimum structure models. Furthermore, interval thicknesses and resistivities are often the parameters to which nongeophysicist experts can relate and base decisions on when using them in waste site remediation, groundwater modelling and physical planning. We present a l...
متن کاملElectrical resistivity tomography data across the Hockai Fault Zone (Ardenne, Belgium)
In this work, we present the result of a large-scale geophysical survey that had the objective of identifying the subsurface characteristics and the NE-SW extension of the Hockai Fault Zone: a major NNW-SSE oriented crustal-rooted fault zone crossing the Stavelot-Venn Massif (Eastern Belgium). 31 two-dimensional electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) profiles are presented, resulting in 10,679...
